As a Colorado-based, not-for-profit health plan, Rocky Mountain Health Plans is in a unique position to
understand and care for the people that live in this great state.

Founded in 1974, we offer a wide range of medical benefit options, including PPO, HMO, and Health Savings Account-eligible plans. Medical plans can be fully-insured, fully-insured with cost sharing options, or self-funded.


The organization’s headquarters are in Grand Junction. Regional offices are in Denver, Pueblo, and Durango.

Rocky Mountain and affiliated entities provide services to 159,942 enrollees:
– 3,709 fully-insured employer groups with 55,198 Members
– 154 self-funded employer groups with 50,414 Members
– 13,855 Individuals
– 22,600 Medicare seniors
– 125 Medigap Members
– 14,201 Medicaid eligible persons
– 3,549 children under the Child Health Plan Plus program

For more than 30 years, Rocky Mountain Health Plans has remained independent in an industry where buyouts and consolidations are routine. We continue to make decisions at the local level to serve and protect Members, not shareholders.

Rocky Mountain offers one of the largest provider networks in Colorado:
– 2,491 primary care doctors
– 5,267 specialists
– 3,472 non-physician specialty providers
– 94 hospitals
– 493 outpatient facilities
– 890 pharmacies

We are financially strong and stable. Rocky Mountain was rated A- (Excellent Financial Strength) by The Street, Inc. This rating places us in the top 18 percent of the industry, an elite group of 101 health insurance companies.

Rocky Mountain Health Plans contributes significantly to Colorado’s economy by circulating more than $479 million in annual revenue throughout the state.

We are the proud recipient of the 2006 America’s Health Insurance Plans Foundation Innovation and Excellence Award in Chronic Care for our Improving Diabetes Outcomes in Mesa County initiative and proud to be named a 2007 Colorado Top Company by ColoradoBiz magazine.
